Mullahoran hold out in a point for point game

Ballinagh played Mullahoran last Wednesday despite the heavy rain which made playing conditions very difficult. With both teams due to meet in the group stages of the senior championship both teams fought hard for a morale boosting victory.

Mullahoran were missing a number of key players but despite this they weathered a strong start from Ballinagh to impose themselves on the game and get the necessary scores for victory.
Ballinagh started strongly and Niall McDermott opened the scoring in the fourth minute with a point from a free after a foul on Paul Urbanski. Ballinagh continued to press hard and missed a number of chances from frees and play before they extended their lead with a point from play in the 13th minute.
Mullahoran were getting to grips with Ballinagh at this stage and with Christy Shelis providing good possession around the middle of the field Michael Brady opened their account with a point after a good passing move involving Eddie Reilly and Raymond Lynch. Both sides swapped points in the 20th minute with Colin Gumley for b and Enda Reilly sending over from an acute angle for the home team. Points from the young m players Raymond Lynch and Enda Reilly had them leading 0-5 to 0-3 going in at half-time.
Ballinagh opened the second half I determined fashion and had an early point from a Niall McDermott free. Mullahoran replied with a similar score from Enda Reilly to keep their lead intact. Ballinagh had a couple of chances to narrow the gap but two missed frees were to prove costly. Mullahoran continued to score, again Enda Reilly along with Michael Brady added another two points to leave the scores at 0-8 to 0-4 after 15 minutes. Ballinagh refused to throw in the towel and two points from Kevin Smith narrowed the gap. Raymond Lynch exchanged points with Kevin Smith to close the scoring.
These teams will next meet in the championship after being selected in the same group as Cavan Gaels and Crosserlough. Both county players, Dermot Sheridan and Pauric Reilly left the field with injuries.
